Achillessehnenriss: Symptome, Behandlung & Heilungsverlauf
Ursachen für eine Achillessehnenruptur
A sudden movement (such as starting to sprint or jumping when playing tennis), patients can suffer an Achilles tendon tear when the tendon suddenly contracts. Runners with chronic pre-damaged tendons are frequently affected, and incomplete tears of the Achilles tendon can also occur.
Symptoms of an Achilles tendon rupture
- a swollen, painful tendon that is sensitive to stress
- diffuse, sometimes sharp pain in various parts of the tendon, usually near the heel (Achillodynia), or pain on pressure
- limited mobility of the ankle joint
- in cases of inflammation, redness or warmth may also occur
Konservative vs. Operative Behandlung bei Achillessehnenriss
Treatment involves an operation to directly suture both tendon stumps, possibly strengthened using an autologous tendon (plantaris tendon). Conservative treatment is only useful if it is possible to verify by X-ray that both tendon stumps are well apposed in plantar flexion.
Typical symptoms of a so-called rupture:
- sudden, severe pain in the area of the Achilles tendon or lower calf
- a tearing or popping sound
- standing on tiptoes on the affected leg is either impossible or only possible with severe pain
